"It’s not about what you do, but why you do it. Living your ‘why’ in your working life means finding the sweet spot between what you care about, what lights you up, what makes you ‘you’ and, potentially, connecting with something greater than yourself."

- MELANIE DIMMITT

I was partaking in my usual internet-inspiration-blog-perusing session the other day when I came across this quote from Melanie Dimmitt, writing for Collective Hub"It’s not about what you do, but why you do it. Living your ‘why’ in your working life means finding the sweet spot between what you care about, what lights you up, what makes you ‘you’ and, potentially, connecting with something greater than yourself." She really got me thinking, “Why is it that, for so long, I knew what I wanted to do in life but every day I questioned whether I could succeed, whether I was able to create this dream career or if I was even good enough to try“?

I remember days where my thoughts would take over and the stress of yearning for a creative career paralysed my world. Work became non-existent as I battled the thoughts running through my head. Why am I doing this? Do I love it? Why does it stress me out? Should I just get a ‘normal’ job? Why is it I cannot bear the thought of doing anything else with my life and career? Why is this so hard, does it mean I am not good enough? Why? Why? Why?

An oft-used saying “Do what you love, you will never work another day in your life” stuck in my head, compounding my frustration. I was doing what I loved but I was still struggling. I wasn’t fulfilled and I was ‘working’ every day and night to only just break even. I was not happy. Why was I not happy doing what I loved?

Looking back now and after an emotion filled year I realise that, at the time, I knew what I loved to do  but I didn’t know WHY I loved to do it! Hallelujah! I worked it out! I couldn’t explain my ‘why’. No wonder I felt lost with no real goal in sight. I wanted to be a photographer but what for? Who for? And why? It is incredible how a small change to the way you think can have so much impact on you, your wellbeing and your world.

Over the past few months I repeatedly asked myself these three questions. Along with the help and guidance of some super incredible people (who I will eventually introduce), I am on my way to living the life I have always wanted. A creative life! A life where I choose to be a positive influence for young aspiring creatives. This is my why!

Through my work, I share the stories of those who live and work creatively.  I hope that I can inspire children, teenagers and adults alike to have a go at their creative urge. Whether that is selling their art or design work, writing a book, opening up a boutique hotel or educating others in a unique way. I am passionate about creativity, being creative, and above all fostering creativity and the people embracing it.

We all have the choice to make the best of our abilities.  My dream is to showcase creativity, let people‘s individuality shine, nurture fellow creative talent and show the world what creatives do best- make the world a beautiful place!

If you are a creative individual who would like to share your story through beautiful imagery please get in touch as I would love to meet you!
